Meet JAKE
Sex: Male
Age: 3-5 year old
Size: Large
We really need a special home for Jake! Jake doesn’t have a bad bone in his body and is brilliant with all dogs and is not a threat to any human. He does have the ability to nip if pushed as he’s petrified but rest assured he is more flight then fight. He would never in a million years just randomly bite anyone, he’s too soft for that! Jake has PTSD after all he’s endured.
Jake arrived to kennels in February, having spent many years in the shelter. He was eventually moved to a foster home where he was slowly progressing being in a more calming environment with calm dogs as role models and in this time lots of volunteers could stroke him once he was on the sofa but sadly due to circumstances beyond anyone's control Jake had to move back to kennels after 6 weeks. He had started his walking in foster and is enjoying his daily walks now and is even off lead with good recall if he’s with a well behaved calm dog.
Jake enjoys two long walks a day. Sadly where he is submissive, we have two dogs at the kennels who pick on him for absolutely no reason whatsoever and he’s petrified of them. Because of this, Jake was moved yet again to foster care where he is flourishing! We're so happy to see him enjoying a natural home life where he's taking strides.
Jake needs a calm environment with no children (he is ok with children but due to the noise etc of children he cannot be re homed with them) visiting calm older children would be ok but they must be dog savvy and sensible. Jake would need another dog as when he was in foster he really did learn from them and start to accept human touch but sadly due to the nature of how our kennels (half way house) operates, it’s super busy and he’s finding it way to stressful and constbsly on edge.
He is clean in the house and non destructive but it would need to be a home where the person understands dog behaviour and preferably ptsd in dogs. Jake is being held back currently but there must be a home out there for him and after so long, it’s just so sad that he’s still with us. He does need a very experienced and special home but the rewards you will get back seeing the changes and progression will certainly outweigh anything else. For a dog like Jake we are happy to consider all options and long term foster is one of them, where we will cover all his costs for life.
Jake will need to do several meets with you and your dog to get to know you but we would welcome you to visit him as much as you want. We are confident in a calm home environment he will truly blossom. Could it be with you?
