We are Dogs Walk This Way Rescue, a not for profit registered CIC organisation dedicated to improving the lives of abandoned dogs.
Our organisation is run by a team of volunteers local to Bagshot, Surrey and we have lots of fosterers in other UK locations.
For the past 10 years we primarily focused our efforts on helping abused dogs in Romania and Bahrain and bringing to the UK for a better life, we have also supported rescues in Romania who save dogs from the cruelty and neglect of kill-shelters by providing food, medication, neutering programs and other essential support.
We have always helped U.K. dogs over the years but our main focus was always abroad. Since January 2023 we made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to stop helping dogs abroad and focus on the issue here, in the U.K. We regularly help local dog wardens with stray dogs and work with many local vets. We also help where we can, owner surrendered dogs.
Our aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome as many of the these dogs as possible. We have rehomed over 2000 dogs since the organisation was launched, but there is so much more to do.
“The heartbeat of the dog, is the heart of our rescue”
Vision
• To continue promoting ‘Adopt, don’t shop’.
• To have stricter laws on breeding. All breeders should have a license and a recognised body needs to monitor this.
• To have less dogs in rescue centres.
Our Mission
• To rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abused, abandoned or unwanted dogs. To help any dog that we have space for.
• To help any dog (unless on the dangerous dog banned list) as long as they have no known serious behavioural issues. Biting, dog/people aggression etc.
• Where we cannot help, provide alternative sources of help ie; behaviourist and or other rescue contact details.
• We will raise public awareness that thousands of dogs are in rescue centres whilst breeders continue to add to an already oversized dog population.
Core Values
CARE – To provide each dog with the best standard of care through our fosterers and ensuring their emotional and physical needs are met. To provide support to our fosterers and ensuring they are regularly contacted to make sure they have the right support. This can be via face to face visits or phone calls. No dog will be put to sleep unless it is the only humane option.
COMPASSION – To ensure we are compassionate towards fosterers, owners, volunteers and dogs in our care.
FAIRNESS – To ensure every dog we take under wing is given the chance to find a home and ensuring we have taken looked at every avenue to find that home. To listen to volunteers, fosterers and core team members to ensure everyone’s opinions and voices are heard.
INTEGRITY – We will work in a way that is open, transparent and accountable to all of our supporters and volunteers..

What we do
Rachael started Dogs Walk This Way Rescue in 2013 after she adopted her first Romanian rescue, Basil and became aware of the plight of dogs in Romania. She visited one of the rescues there and went with them to kill shelters where she saw first-hand what the dogs there endure. She knew she couldn’t just go back home and ignore the problem, so she started rescuing and supporting the rescuers in Romania.
To date, Dogs Walk This Way Rescue have saved and re-homed more than 2000 dogs. Rachael is no longer doing it all alone – she is helped by a team of dedicated dog-loving volunteers. Meet some of the team here
Our volunteers do everything from working at our kennels to fundraising, collecting donations, carrying out home checks for prospective adopters and fostering.
